Darling Ducks

We have at least two, maybe three duck families hanging out near camp this summer.  Sometimes we see the mother perched with her five little ducklings on one of the large rocks in the middle of the rapids taking a sunbath.  After awhile the mother will jump back into the water and one by one the ducklings plop in after her, being carried to and for by the current, their little feet paddling up a storm to stay close by their mama. 

Another brood will be huddled together, sleeping at the boat landing until someone walks by, then they swim out a bit and float along shore.  I wonder if someone has been feeding them because they don't seem afraid and appear to be waiting for someone to toss them a morsel or two.  It would be nice if they could make it to adulthood.

Scenic Scenarios

It was such a beautiful, sunny day...clear blue sky...birds chirping in the trees...rhythmic sound of water rushing down the rapids...calm, quiet waters of the river bay... I just had to take a few pictures to capture it all.  Wish you were here too so you could enjoy it with us.  :)

Bringing Home the Beef..... I Mean Fish!

Jason Koskela brought up his seven year old son Wyatt for the first time with him fishing in Canada.  He was pretty pumped when his Dad caught a 38 inch pike.  He got on the radio to his Grandpa in a nearby boat and hollered,  "Grandpa, Dad caught a 38 pound Pike!!"

And his Dad really has learned how to easily catch fish on Indian Lake.  They pulled in not only some trophy pike, but Walleye, Bass and Lake Trout as well.  I believe everyone in his group enjoyed their trip to Canada. 

Super Exciting Catch

Eric Speichinger is flanked by his fishing buddies Max and Brad who were very excited when he snagged this 42 inch pike on Indian Lake.  Earlier in the day they caught and released a 40 inch pike in the same area.  Folks are catching some nice fish not only on Indian but the lakes surrounding us too.  It makes me long to get out fishing with my fishing buddy , Joanna too. 

Cabin 7 Renovations Completed

Good news!! We finally completed our biggest renovation project yet at Agimac River Outfitters.  Cabin 7 our only small cabin, had an added on bathroom that was really starting to rot.  John felt it was best to totally tear it down and figure a way to put it inside the cabin itself to prevent heaving during the winter months.  We still wanted to have two bedrooms, so we divided the largest bedroom with a wall, making one side the new bathroom and the other side a small bedroom with a single bed.  The other bedroom has a queen bed and could also have a single bed if needed. 

After John removed the old bathroom, he spent almost a week like a mole, crawling under the cabin, lifting it higher and adding  more solid foundations with blue rock and cement pads.  He also installed a new large window in the living room.   

I helped by painting walls, laying new carpet in the bedrooms and vinyl in the bathroom.  It's a cute as it can be.  Our first couple to rent it, Joe and Ann Winegar said those exact words as well. 

A Stringer Full

Marvin Skrzypcak and his group brought in a mighty fine catch of Walleye from a nearby lake.  Some of our guests like to land their boats on Indian Lake and stay on it the whole week to fish.  They have learned every nook and cranny of where to find the fish and when is the best time to catch them.   Indian Lake tends to have the largest fish in the area because of its size, but it can also be the hardest to fish because it is clearer than other lakes, which makes it more difficult to fish for Walleye especially.  They bite best in early mornings and evenings.

Others like to explore the ten or more lakes close by that are smaller or shallower and usually darker in color, making it easier to catch Walleyes.  Arethusa, Mitt, Heathwalt and Barrel are some of those lakes.  Great job Marvin group.

First Fish Pictures of the Season

Our 2015 fishing season has begun with a flourish.  Though the cooler weather has slowed the fish biting a bit, that has not daunted our first week's guests.  They are pulling in some whoppers from Lake Trout to Pike to Walleye.  Pictured below is a newcomer to Agimac River Outfitters, Keith Kabfleisch from Winter Park, Florida.  Imagine that.  I grew up in Winter Park, Florida so it was great fun to welcome another Floridian to camp.

Keith, also affectionately called Captain Keith, takes folks out deep sea fishing in Florida for Kingfish and Sharks, along with some shrimping at Mosquito Lagoon on the Intracoastal Waterway.  What a coincidence this is.... just this April while Joanna and I were vacationing in Florida, we went shark fishing on the ocean and shrimping at Mosquito Lagoon for the first time in our lives.

It wasn't long before Capt. Keith pulled in this hefty twelve pound Lake Trout from Indian Lake.  Nice job Keith.  Your deep sea fishing skills are proving valuable here.

Another newcomer this first week of fishing is thirteen year old Amara Arndt from Marshfield, Wisconsin here in camp with Dan and Deb Arndt of Winter, Wisconsin.  I could tell from the moment I met Amara that she was an adventurous outdoor girl, something like our Joanna.  One clue was the tee shirt she was wearing had a dog pictured on it.   A few days ago, her group told me that she had caught several good sized Walleye that day, her very first walleye ever.  And today, just moments ago, Deb announced that she had caught a 40 inch Northern Pike all by herself.  She looked like a pro as she hoisted the fish from the live well for me to take her picture.  Congratulations Amara.  It's encouraging to see young people having so much fun in the great outdoors.
